* BURIAL AT SEA *

A boat off shore, the surf to brave
Sailed through the channel, found its way
The Sun, it shined across the wave
Reflecked sadness, desperate day
Spread the ashes upon the sea
Release the soul so it may flee

The Boatswain stood the quarterdeck
Passing the breakers, not to wreck
The mood was silent on the deck
The pace was slow, a mournful trek
Spread the ashes upon the sea
Release the soul so it may flee

The boat approached the rendezvous
Pitched and pitched as it neared the place
This moment now…no one withdrew
A somber gaze on every face
Spread the ashes upon the sea
Release the soul so it may flee

When prayers were said, my tears I shed
Ashes sprinkled, upon the sea
My love, we wed, and now you’re dead
Swirl and swirl for eternity
Spread the ashes upon the sea
Release the soul so it may flee

Flowers scattered upon the tide
Nary an eye aboard was dry
Current rippling, carried her wide
My love is gone…I say goodbye
Spread the ashes upon the sea
Release the soul so it may flee

Cruel world…you once held fast this slave
Now free at last, no more impound
The captor now, shall not deprave
This life, this soul…a meaning found

Spread the ashes upon the sea
Release the soul so it may flee
